A newly retired Richard is driving Emily crazy as he roams about the house trying to settle into his jobless lifestyle. Desperate for ideas, Emily calls Lorelai and asks her to take her father on a daylong tour of Stars Hollow, but during Richard's visit, Dean brings over a junkyard car that he fixed up for Rory. The mood quickly turns contentious, with Richard concerned that the vehicle may not be safe for his granddaughter to drive---even though Dean insists that it is. To settle their escalating disagreement, the two men head to the town mechanic.
